Northeast Ohio Youth Climate Action Fund

Building a more sustainable future will take our collective efforts.

Our vision:

Empowering the next generation of Northeast Ohio’s climate leaders by providing financial resources and mentorship to catalyze impactful climate projects.

  • We are looking to collaborate with high school environmental clubs or teachers to support youth to implement climate action projects during the school year around the theme of “Circular Systems” (defined as eliminating waste from the production of a product)

We are looking for motivated high school students to launch climate projects during the 2022 - 2023 school year.

    The fund will provide:

    • mentorship through mentors and/or advisors from Global Shapers Cleveland and Black Environmental Leaders Association

    • financial support up to $1,500 to be used for project materials

  • 1) Organize a community tree planting effort with locally sourced trees

    2) Implement a composting program in your school to reduce food waste

    3) We are open to your suggestions - feel free to propose a different climate action project

  • Spring 2022 (January - June)

Projects will likely range from 2 - 4 months

  • Project team members are expected:

    • to work on projects 1 - 3 hours per week

    • meet with their mentor on at least a monthly basis to provide project updates

    • complete a equity training

    • develop a project report upon completion

  • Here are descriptions of some of our funded teams:

    • Eco-Takeout: A team of two students working to replace their schools plastic takeout containers with reusable ones. This has the potential of saving 16,000 disposable containers or 4,600 lbs CO2 annually.

    • Tree Planting: A team of five students working with a national student driven nonprofit to host a tree planting community event. Their goal was to plant enough trees to match the number of trees lost to paper used by their school. They exceeded their goal and planted 362 saplings.
